What this module supports
The Expense module gives schools a dedicated console for outgoing finance records beyond student fee collection. It helps finance teams categorize expenses, retain invoice references, and keep spending activity searchable from a structured workspace that mirrors the legacy operational flow.
Key capabilities
- create new entries from Add Expense with expense head, date, name, invoice number, amount, attachment, and note fields
- review and filter prior records from Search Expense
- maintain categorization through Expense Head
- monitor dashboard counts for total expenses, number of heads, and the latest update timestamp
- keep day-to-day non-tuition spending inside the same finance environment as other school operations
UI surface in Smart School
The live Smart School UI currently exposes this module through three dedicated routes:
- Add Expense
- Search Expense
- Expense Head
In the current UI, the expense console includes a three-tab header, summary cards, and an add form that explicitly asks for head, date, amount, attachment, invoice reference, and notes. That makes Expense a first-class finance area rather than only a reporting endpoint.

Important note
Expense data becomes significantly more useful when schools keep heads, invoice references, and dates consistent. Loose categorization here will reduce the value of later finance reporting and income-versus-expense comparisons.
